BC Home and Garden Show

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the BC Home and Garden Show at the new Vancouver Convention Centre thanks to the discount offered through Groupon.

It was filled with booths ranging from cleaning agents, to garden ideas right up to modular homes.

When and if I build a laneway house, I will definitely keep Karoleena homes in mind. They remind me of Ikea for homes. The base fully finished, move-in ready Base module starts at $129, 900.

Various volunteers from the BC Landscape Assocation were on hand to give advice. I was happy to find someone to talk to about irrigation problems where I live and talked to Stephen from Carrot top Gardens for his opinion. The BC Landscape Assocation had a tongue-in-cheek tip sheet "13 deadly syndromes and cures to achieve a sustainable garden by Owen Dell".

Nellie's All-Natural seemed to be pushing a hard sell, with a booth up and center, ladies in bath-robes, as well as beautiful re-usable bags given away outside the conference hall. I just visited their website, which is lovely, but unfortunately in flash. Not many people would wait around for the page to load.

I picked up a laundry detergent replacement called Smart Klean Laundry that if it works, and is less of an environmental hazard than normal phosphate laundry, I believe should be promoted to replace traditional laundry detergents. 1 8 oz ball containing various ceramic pellets work in a similar manner to remove tough stains while being gentle to fabric and colours.

A product that I considered buying, but the price was a little steep for me, was the Norwex cloths. Basic cloths start at $16.99 however, the cool part of them, is that besides being an ultra microfiber cloth, silver is woven in. Thus removing up to 99.9% of the bacteria and also inactivates that bacteria within 24 hours.
